Basic steps of the migration to Google Analytics 4.

 

Google Analytics 4 will replace Universal Analytics. On July 1, 2023, all standard Universal Analytics properties will stop processing new hits. Universal Analytics 360 properties will stop processing new hits on July 1, 2024. Learn more about Universal Analytics 360

If you have a Universal Analytics property, you will need to migrate it. Check if you have any Universal Analytics properties. The sooner you do the migration, the more data history and statistics you will have in Google Analytics 4.

 

Making your setup to Google Analytics 4 today will give you a complete view of consumer behavior on your website using proprietary modeled data. Enhanced machine learning features, useful reports and new integrations will help you adapt to an ever-evolving privacy and technology environment so you can see the statistics you need.

For all customers

  1. Plan the account structure (Effort may vary) Skip this step if you have a website or application.
  2. Create a GA4 property and data flow  (Requires very little effort) GA4 Configuration Wizard

  3. Collect data from the website and application (Only if applicable; effort may vary) Mandatory if the GA4 Setup Wizard could not reuse the labels. Set up Shopify or another website builder or CMS

  4. Activate Google signals (Only if applicable; it requires very little effort) Mandatory to improve remarketing and reporting.

  5. Configure conversions (Requires little effort). Target migration tool .Use the tool or set conversions manually.

  6. Add users (Requires little effort). User migration tool. Use the tool or add users manually

For advertisers

7. Link Google Ads (Requires little effort). Google Ads Link Migration Tool.Use the tool or create Google Ads links.

8. Migrate audiences. (Only if applicable; requires medium effort) o set up new audiences.

9.Validate conversions (Only if applicable; requires medium effort).

10.Importing conversions to Google Ads for bidding.  (Only if applicable; effort may vary).

11. Add Analytics audiences to a campaign or ad group for remarketing.
